x6 sheets, portrait orientation, pdf format. x8 images and matching x8 words to sound out and read as well as match to images.
What’s it for?
This 'Phase 2/3‘ picture and word matching set has been designed to be a simple activity to consolidate learning. This set focuses on sounds within Phase 2 AND Phase 3.
This activity is ideal for groups/individuals to be getting on with independently and/or for learners to revisit these sounds with an adult.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for Early Years children who are learning these sounds for the first time, pupils in Year 1 who need some practise/reinforcement of these sounds. This resource is also ideal for learners with additional learning needs.
How to use it?
Each learner sounds out the graphemes printed on the ‘word cards’ then matches these to the and ‘stand up character/picture cards’. There are x8 pictures and word cards to match.
Resource Details…
Each word card has a coloured triangle (top, left). Pink indicates these words are using Phase 2 sounds. Purple indicates that these words use Phase 3 sounds. Red letters/graphemes indicate that these sounds might be more tricky as different people can pronounce these sounds differently. E.g. the ‘er’ in the word ‘cracker’ many people pronounce this as an ‘uh’ or ‘a’ sound. Learners may need support with these (red) graphemes.
ALL images/words featured here have been chose because they CAN be sounded out - the ‘tick’ pictured on the coloured (pink/purple) triangle indicates that these words can be sounded out.
The words included are listed here:
Phase 2 Words
elf
robin
Santa
Phase 3 Words
cracker
tree
Nutcracker
snowman
pudding

Who’s it for?

double sided (back to back) version also available
What’s it for?
These Christmas Alphabet cards have been designed to be printed separately onto card to practise identifying the x26 initial sounds and match these with the correct grapheme - all Christmas themed. This set of cards provided learners with a fun opportunity to practise their sound knowledge linked to Christmas.
This activity has been designed to be a simple, interactive, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for individuals to be getting on with independently.
How to use it?
An adult needs to print these cards onto A4 card and and pre-cut the cards into x52 separate rectangle cards.
The set of cards can then be shuffled and placed on a table top, positioned face up with a for learners to look at and match. Learners could use on their own or perhaps with adult support (initially). Learners could also use this resource to order the cards alphabetically.
Learners look at each image and say this out loud. They then identify (verbally) the initial sound of this word e.g. for the first letter of the alphabet the learner would say “Advent Calendar” and then “a” (for ‘Advent’). Learners then look for the ‘a’ grapheme card to match the two together.
Resource Details…
The pictures included use words with clear initial sounds. Some images/words may be completely new to learners making these a teaching point and opportunity to expand their ‘Christmas vocabulary’. For clarity all images are labelled on the back of every card, e.g. ‘quince’ may easily be presumed to be a ‘pear’.
